Well, I have a friend that has been going through some intense relationship stuff. Since I have dealt with the same stuff, I kinda know what he's wanting from me (NOT SEX!!). What he wants is for someone to listen. Although he comes across as having a victim mentality, I try to listen. But it never fails: I walk away feeling so depressed. Then I realize I'm just taking on his offenses. Then last night as I laid in bed, I began to think (something I do way too much!). It may be harsh to say, but this friend of mine needs to choose happiness!
Philippians 4:12 - I've learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I'm just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I've found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.
Happiness is a choice! Don't get me wrong; there is a time to mourn, but there is also a time to put that aside and move on. Happiness, just as anger, can only come where it is welcomed! Invite happiness into your life! Yes, I understand that bad things happen to good people. That's a part of life! We're gonna get hurt and feel pain.. but just as quickly as we can get upset, we can get happy. Life isn't going to be perfect, but while you're still living and breathing, allow yourself to experience happiness.
Now, do I wake- up every morning and choose to be happy? Uh, no! To be honest, I didn't choose happiness this morning. The good thing is, I can choose to be happy NOW! In this moment. There's times I let stupid things get to me. When I say 'life sucks' it's because that's how I've allowed my life to be. When I say 'life is great' it isn't because I live a perfect life. It's because I've chosen happiness. Do you want to be miserable the rest of your life or do you want to be happy and content in life? I know my answer.
That's really good, Steph! :) - Heather
